Welcome to Keepalamedaflat

KeepAlamedaFlat is a grassroots public awareness group that seeks to stop a currently small but growing trend of support to raise the elevation in Alameda from 7 feet to what some plans show as nearly 30 – 50 feet. Raising the elevation of Alameda would destroy much of Alameda's beautiful heritage.

Just kidding

I use Keep Alameda Flat as a general interest site about Alameda from my perspective. I am interested in social justice issues, community development, post-modern faith, philosophy, art, cycling, photography, environmental projects, technology Pipes and Pints.

I found inspiration for the name from the Keep Austin Weird movement. That website is all about how weird Austin is. My friends and I were sitting around our Thursday night masculine tradition of smoking and drinking around a backyard fire we call Pipes N' Pints. We were talking about Alameda needing a quirky website like Austin's website. I don't want Keep Alameda Flat to be just a political commentary. I want talk about what makes this city unique and about building networks of community.
